I am part of this amazing five-day challenge on Facebook by Gina De Vee, who is the author of ‘’The Audacity to be Queen’’ and she created this free five-day challenge to help women around the world move past fear, self-doubt, second-guessing and everything in between that could be holding them back without even realizing it and during last night’s live, it hit me, so many of us self-sabotage without even realizing it. We talk ourselves out of that big business deal, or writing that book or contacting that brand.
When it comes to your business, your career, your life, or yourself, you need to acknowledge what is holding you back and what self-sabotaging habits you have that you need to work past to achieve success in your business, career, life and within yourself.
Take some time to reflect
It’s important to take some time to reflect on what your self-sabotaging behaviors are. You need to find out why you are holding yourself back, why you keen self-sabotaging, and why you feel you aren’t worthy of everything you have ever dreamed of. The successful are those that have worked through what has failed and what has worked. They use their mistakes as a learning curve and adjust their sails to face their success, and this is what you need to do. Sometimes, a few minutes of self-reflection and understanding can change everything.
Change your pattern of behavior
Changing your limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging behavior is fundamental to stop the self-sabotaging and going after your dreams. Every decision you make every day either moves you toward your success or away from your success and the behaviors you permit will determine your success. Determine what type of behavior you have and see where you can improve it. Taking those steps every day to move past your limiting behaviors and self-sabotaging behaviors will help you move closer to your goals.
Second-guessing everything you do.
It’s normal to second-guess yourself, especially when it’s something new or just before you are about to hit send on an important email, but when that second-guessing completely paralyzes you from hitting send all together and prevents you from doing anything, that’s self-sabotaging. Apart from moving past this part of self-sabotage is to learn to trust yourself, your abilities, and your vision. It could be as simple as giving yourself a pep talk when you feel yourself second-guessing yourself or questioning your abilities. Take a moment to remind yourself of all you have accomplished and achieved thus far. If you could achieve all of that, what else could you achieve if you just stopped second-guessing yourself?
Stop trying to perfect everything, and just do it.
Perfection is impossible, and it’s a sabotaging habit that can stop you from ever taking that next step. Perfection forces you to constantly change the outline of your website, or the cover of the book you want to self-publish. No matter what it is, if you find yourself waiting for it to be perfect before you do anything, that is self-sabotaging. That’s self-sabotaging your dreams, career, goals, and life. Sometimes you just have to do even when something isn’t perfect and work from there.
Stop giving in to Imposter Syndrome
Imposter Syndrome is that unrelenting fear of feeling like you don’t belong where you are or where you want to be. It could be that you feel unqualified for a position or feel like you shouldn’t have been given that position. No matter what it is, Imposter Syndrome has been known as the silent killer of dreams. When this happens, it’s best to take a step back and remind yourself of all you have accomplished so far, and by doing this you are reminding yourself of who you are, and forcing yourself to move past the self-doubt and fear you feel. Moving past Imposter Syndrome can be combated by retraining your mind to remember who you are and what you are capable of.
