Have you ever felt like you where destined for more than just working your normal 9 to 5. You have that burning desire to create, evolve and build a life you are happy with but you just don’t know where to start.
I know its incredibly scary starting something of your own. Let that be starting a new business venture, starting a blog or writing a book. It can be anything, the thought of it is scary but whats even scarier is not taking that leap of faith and starting that “something” that you have been wanting to start for as long as you can remember.
Whats your excuse for not starting that special something?
Your working a full time job and just don’t have time right?
Wrong!
Yes your 9 to 5 is the reason you are able to pay bills, go on holidays and go for dinners but it isn’t a valid reason to not pursue your dream.
Just take a look at your boss. He or She is running their own company because they decided to take that leap of faith and start their own company. They put all the negativity, self doubt and anxiety aside and took the chance. Now they have a successful company.
So how can you overcome that fear of not settling for your normal 9 to 5 and pursuing your dreams?
Now your dream could be to become an artist in your spare time or you want to write a book. What ever it is you are capable of achieving it. You just need to create a plan of action, stick to it and be consistent.
Have a vision and write it down
I’m a big believer of putting pen to paper and writing down your plan for your dream. Find 5 minutes out of your day to reflect on what you want to achieve, how you feel you can get there and what steps you need to take now in order to get everything in motion.
Once you have taken the time to write everything down you are making it more real and more accessible. You are putting it out there and it becomes possible.
Take the time to do research
This is really a key factor that you need to dive into head first. Make sure you are doing the necessary research and you know what needs to be done, how to do it or what challenges you may face. Almost every successful entrepreneur or business owner at some point in their career has taken the time to do a bit of research into certain things and believe me, it has just added to their success instead of taking away from it.
Get out there and make yourself known
You need to start somewhere. Even if that means starting small. Create a platform for yourself and start with showing the world what you have to offer. Make a name for yourself and be proud of what you have to offer.
You need to work on building and growing your audience. The more people that know about you and your business the better. You want people to know who you are. You want them to tell people who you are and what you have to offer.
Force yourself to get out of your comfort zone
This goes hand in hand with getting out there and making yourself known. Force yourself to get out of your comfort zone. How often do you find yourself to scared to put yourself out there because you are scared of criticism or negativity from people that may not like what you are doing?
This is something that you will face when you are working towards reaching your goals and dreams. You are going to face negativity, doubt and there will be people doubting your abilities but you cant let that stray you from your end goal. This is when you need to stay focused, block out the negativity and keep going.
Make your goals a priority
I understand working 5 days a week, 8 hours a day and dealing with life can take up alot of time and you often feel like where do you actually have the time to pursue your dreams? Well that is entirely up to you.
If reaching your goals and making it a reality is what you really want, then you need to make it a priority. You need to make time for it no matter what. This means taking an hour out of your day after work to write that book, start with that blog post or creating that business plan.
Make sure you are finding the time. You cannot work 10 hours a day for a boss, making their dreams a reality but you are not willing to spend an hour a day to work towards your own goals and dreams.
Think of your job as a stepping stone and not a boundary
Working full time and trying to work towards your own dream can be hard but you cannot think of your 9 to 5 as a boundary that’s stopping you from reaching that goal. Think of it as a stepping stone that’s helping you reach that goal. Chances are, no matter what your dreams are, its going to cost you money. Keep at it. It will pay off in the long run.
Utilize your free time
Make good use of the free time you have. Spend the extra time you have doing research on your goals and gaining knowledge on how you can get there. Also try and create more free time for yourself in order to allow yourself more time to work towards your goals.
Instead of watching 2 hours of TV at night after work, take that time and work on your goals and plans. You will feel more productive and less stressed about the amount of time you have to reach those goals.
Get your finances in check
Your probably wondering what your finances have to do with everything but as I stated before, you will probably need money at some point to help with your goals and plans. Make sure you are being financially savvy so that when you are needing to invest a little more into your goals and dreams you aren’t going to do yourself in or burden yourself.
Keep at it no matter what
You need to keep at it. It isn’t going to be easy but it will be worth it. Think about how far you have come and think about how you will feel when you have finally reached that goal.
Anything is possible. All you need to do is believe in yourself, your dream and your plan to get there.
You can do this.
No one should ever feel like they aren’t living the life they aren’t happy with. You cannot go to work for 8 to 10 hours of the day and never find time to work on something for yourself. Make time to write that book, create that business plan or start that blog. Just do it. Close your eyes and just do it.
