This past week has been one of the most challenging, emotionally draining, and just plain hectic week. I have had in a while. I woke up on Monday not feeling so great and then Monday just came crashing down on me like a ton of bricks and thereafter it just felt like the rest of the week followed suit.
One thing that this crazy and emotionally draining week has taught me is that I need to start standing up for myself and not feel ashamed for doing so.
After everything, it got me thinking. How many of us women just accept what someone says when we don’t agree with it or apologize for something we didn’t do all because we are told not to defend ourselves and learn to take criticism with grace.
We need to teach ourselves that it’s ok to not agree with someone’s opinion. It is ok for us to stand up for ourselves when we feel like we are being ill-treated or blamed for something we know is not our fault. It is alright for us to voice our thoughts and speak our minds when we are struggling and needing help. It is fine to need a personal day away from work without being made to feel like you can’t handle stress or don’t deserve that personal day.
I think it is especially important to stand your ground in the workplace. After all, we are spending the majority of our time with our work colleagues and bosses and we need to make sure we are being treated correctly, fairly, being heard, and able to speak up when you don’t agree with something. Many of us struggle with this because we don’t want to ”upset the apple cart”. It’s just too easy for us to keep quiet, take whatever comes our way, and just learn to deal with it but we seriously need to stop this.
We are all-powerful, independent, and driven women. We are all unique and special and we all have a right to voice our opinions and we most certainly have a right to stand our ground and not feel ashamed for it. Let this be in the workplace or your personal life.
Starting from today lets no longer feel ashamed or bad for standing our ground and speaking up about things that upset us or hurt us. We are allowed to share our thoughts and opinions. You never know the fact that you found the courage to stand up for yourself could give someone else the courage to do so as well.
We should all stand together and support one another. Make sure you stand up for yourself. You are valuable, important and what you have to say is important. Take care of yourself emotionally and physically and never feel back for speaking up and defending yourself.
